CUSTOMER REVIEW
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?) This is a beautifully made product and FOR THE RIGHT CHILD it would be a real treasure. But let me describe you what that child is and is not:
The child should be mature enough to follow detailed instructions. There are 38 different kinds of pieces in this set, it's easy to confuse them, and you can't substitute them. I know lots of kids who would like the challenge, but make sure that's who you're giving this to.
Legos can be enjoyed in a couple ways. You can buy an elaborate kit and assemble it like a puzzle, or you can just fool around with the blocks and play Star Wars with your characters. Younger kids enjoy this; they're building, but there's plenty of room for imaginative play too. The level of engineering is much higher for K'Nex. There's a lot more problem solving involved, and a lot less flexibility about interchanging the pieces (all 38 of them).
Maybe in the long run I'm saying that a child can learn a great deal about machines and engineering from K'Nex, which isn't really true with Legos, but don't turn a six year old loose on these and expect anything but disaster. These would be great for a family project -- in a family that engineers together.
